Child Safe Standards – Supporting Our School Community

At our school, the safety and wellbeing of every child is our highest priority. To help schools across Victoria keep children safe, the Child Safe Standards have been introduced. These are important guidelines that all schools must follow.

What are the Child Safe Standards?

The Child Safe Standards are a set of rules that guide schools to create safe, supportive, and respectful environments for every child. They help schools:

  • Protect children from all forms of abuse or harm.
  • Promote respect, inclusion, and fairness.
  • Teach children about their rights and how to speak up if something doesn’t feel safe.
  • Build strong partnerships with families and communities to support children.

How do they help our school?

By following the Child Safe Standards, our school:

  • Makes sure staff and volunteers are trained to recognise and respond to concerns about child safety.
  • Listens to children’s voices and takes their views seriously.
  • Works with parents and carers so that together we can provide a safe, caring environment for all children.
  • Creates clear policies and procedures that support child safety every day.

What this means for families

When families know that schools are committed to child safety, trust grows stronger. Families from all backgrounds and cultures can feel confident that their children are protected, respected, and supported to thrive.
