Physical Education
This term in Physical Education, our Foundation to Year 2 students have been developing their fundamental movement skills through a focus on basketball and balance activities. Students have practiced dribbling, passing, and catching, learning how to control the ball with increasing accuracy while working with partners and in small groups. They have also taken part in a range of balancing challenges, exploring how their body moves in different ways and building stability and coordination.
Year 3 and 4 students have been introduced to the exciting game of Handball (Olympic Handball), building their skills and understanding of how the game is played. The main focus has been on developing accurate passing and confident catching while moving, as well as learning how to defend and attack as part of a team. Students have practiced creating space, intercepting the ball, and working together to build effective attacking plays. It has been fantastic to see students showing persistence, cooperation, and enjoyment while learning a new team sport.
Year 5 and 6 students have been participating in basketball and volleyball, with a strong focus on teamwork, collaboration, fair play, and decision making. Students have been challenged to apply their movement skills in game situations, working together to create effective plays, support teammates, and adapt their strategies as the game unfolds. They have explored how good communication, respect for others, and positive decision making all contribute to successful and enjoyable team experiences.
School Sport Victoria update
I would like to congratulate all of our students who represented St Thomas with pride at last Friday at the District Athletics competition. Many of our students performed exceptionally well, winning their events and progressing through to the Division competition, a fantastic achievement. A special mention also goes to Ryan White, who has been progressing through the state cricket trial process and impressively made it to the final 30 players. This is an outstanding accomplishment and a valuable learning experience. We are very proud of all our students for their effort, dedication, and sportsmanship. Finally good luck to all year 6 students who next week will be taking part in the Summer Sports District competition in Volleyball, Basketball, Cricket and Softball!
