Spotlight on Learning

Dear Families,

Between our event-filled Weeks 5 and 7, Week 6 offered students an opportunity to settle into and consolidate their learning.

On Tuesday next week, students look forward to representing the school in cricket, softball, volleyball or basketball against other local schools.

We also welcome the fathers of our students for the Father's Day Breakfast, beginning 8:30am on Friday, for a special dance performance by the community.

Religious Education Focus:

We continued to learn about the Sacrament of the Eucharist, with a focus on its symbols, as well as deep discussion of St Paul's instructions to the Corinthians on how to take Communion in a worthy manner.

English Focus:

Reading:

Students learnt about words with the Latin base of duce/duct, which means lead. They continued reading and responding to our class novel Once.

Writing: 

Students continued writing their information report on Poland, this week's body paragraph focusing on the Central European country's flora and fauna. They practised converting verbs and adjectives into nouns (nominalisation), and creating appositives, two language features they will include in their information report.

Mathematics Focus:

Students explored efficient mental strategies for multiplication, division, addition and subtraction equations, such as compensation strategy, jump strategy, decomposition strategy, and partitioning strategy.

Integrated Studies Focus:

During an incursion with Elephant Ed, students learned about the changes that people undergo during puberty.

SEL Focus:

Students explored facts and statistics related to gender equality, discussing the reasons for inequalities and possible solutions.

Auslan Learning Focus:

Students learned to sign colours and reinforced this learning through games and activities.
