What's Happening In Grade 5?

Interschool sports: Students have been enjoying a range of interschool sports this term, including European handball, cricket, volleyball, and basketball. The sportsmanship and teamwork on display have been wonderful, with students cheering each other on and showing respect across all teams. As the season draws to a close, it’s been fantastic to see such enthusiasm and dedication in every game.
Reading & writing: We have just finished our focus on procedure texts, in which students have enjoyed following instructions and creating sets of instructions on skills that they are expert in! This week we have launched learning into explanation texts - which will have us exploring the reasons behind big scientific phenomena that affect our planet.
Maths: This term, students have been exploring perimeter and area, learning to calculate the measurements of both regular and irregular shapes using appropriate metric units. They’ve been developing their skills in applying formulas accurately and thinking carefully about measurement. It’s been great to see their confidence and precision grow as they tackle these concepts.
Inquiry: Students are enjoying using the online program Inquisitive this term to bring to life Biological and Earth and Space Sciences. Through interactive activities and videos, students have been learning about the survival adaptations of animals. We are looking forward to sharing all our inquiry learning with you through our PRODUCTION performances - which we are working hard on! Can’t wait!
