Kindergarten Dance

This term, our Kindergarten Drama students are setting sail on Adventures Across the Seas, a unit exploring history through movement, storytelling and creativity. Our journey has taken us from dinosaur digs to ancient pyramids, pirates, and the rich traditions of Indigenous Australian culture. In this week’s lesson, students immersed themselves in a perfect blend of knowledge and fun, observing works by Indigenous Australian artists and dance companies, moving to the rhythm of traditional ceremonial music, acting out the Dreamtime story of Tiddalick the Frog, and creating expressive movements inspired by sacred totem animals.

Year 9 Drama Elective

In this Year 9 Drama lesson, students delved into physical theatre, developing counterbalance and flying acrobatic skills to enhance their playbuilding work. Through collaborative movement and trust-based exercises, they explored how physicality can be used to create dramatic meaning on stage. The lesson was designed to equip students with tools they can apply to help them move beyond dialogue and use their bodies as expressive instruments. Through guided exercises and creative exploration, students discovered how movement can be used to build atmosphere, convey character relationships, and heighten dramatic tension. By incorporating these physical theatre elements into their devised performances, students learned to create layered, meaningful storytelling that resonates visually with an audience. This lesson not only strengthened their physical performance skills but also deepened their understanding of how movement can communicate complex ideas and emotions on stage.
