Junior School News

From the Acting Head of Junior School
It has been another busy and rewarding week in the Junior School. Our students continue to amaze us with their energy and enthusiasm, even as the cold and wet weather continues to impact their play and sport time. In the coming weeks, we look forward to the much-anticipated Public Speaking Competition, always a highlight on our calendar and a wonderful opportunity for students to showcase their confidence, creativity, and clarity of thought.
We also wish our representatives all the very best as they head off to participate in HICES events this week. We are proud of their hard work and commitment and know they will represent our School with distinction.
As always, I would like to remind our community of the importance of respect, particularly in showing courtesy and kindness to all adults across our School. It is through these everyday gestures that we continue to build a strong, supportive environment for everyone.
Thank you for your ongoing support. Please enjoy some highlights from the past two weeks.
Jeans for Genes Day
On Thursday, 7 August, the Junior School proudly took part in Jeans for Genes Day, with students and staff swapping their uniforms for denim to raise money for a worthy cause. It was fantastic to see the school community come together, wearing jeans and showing their support with smiles and generosity.
Thanks to the kindness of our families, we raised valuable funds for the Jeans for Genes campaign, supporting vital research into childhood genetic diseases through the Children’s Medical Research Institute. The CMRI is dedicated to improving children's health through scientific discovery. Their work focuses on understanding the causes of serious childhood diseases, including genetic disorders, cancer, epilepsy, and birth defects.
A big thank you to everyone who participated and donated — your support helps make a real difference in the lives of children and their families.
National Tree Day with Pre-K
Our Pre-Kindergarten students proudly participated in National Tree Day, a wonderful initiative by Planet Ark. They learned about the importance of trees and caring for the environment and had a great time planting seedlings in our school garden as part of this special day.
Celebrating 100 Days of Kindergarten!
Last Friday, our Kindergarten students were very excited to celebrate being "100 days brighter." They could choose to wear bright clothes or dress up like a 100-year-old.
During the day, they made medals with their Year 6 buddies. They counted 100 bright beads and put them on string to make the medals. Each bead represented an amazing day they have spent learning and having fun.
They also built different models using 100 paddle pop sticks, 100 construction discs, and 100 stickers.
Kindergarten made fairy bread with 100s and 1000s sprinkles and got their faces painted to look even brighter! It was such a fun way to celebrate their first 100 days of school, and we are so proud of how far they have come.
J3 - 2D Shapes
J3 has been exploring 2D shapes in maths. Students have taken their learning outside, creating their own grids with chalk to measure, compare, and design shapes. They’ve also estimated and measured the area of classroom objects, discovering that area is the number of square units a shape covers — making maths active, practical, and fun!
P5 - Volcanoes
Last week in P5, our budding scientists explored how volcanoes work by designing and building their own working models. Working in teams, students created structures to demonstrate the anatomy of a volcano and staged eruptions to show the process in action. They also reflected on what went well and the challenges they faced, deepening their understanding of both volcanic activity and scientific experimentation.
