Swimming Program

St Simon the Apostle Swimming Program
Prep, Year 1, Year 2, Year 3 and Year 4
Next week, we begin our Prep to Year 4 Swimming program. Please refer to the timetable below as listed on the Operoo permission form. In the second week of our swimming program, there are various time changes to be noted due to parent teacher interviews. To ensure all classes receive their full 8 sessions of instruction, some classes will have 45-minute lessons to make up the time.
An alternate time for eating lunch and having a lunch break will be implemented during this two week period at the classroom teachers discretion.
The Prep to Year 4 swimming program is part of the Physical Education curriculum, providing opportunities for students to learn fundamental movement and safety skills in the water. During the program, students will be monitored and assessed on their swimming abilities. The swimming lessons will substitute the onsite Physical Education lesson taken by Mr Karl Camerino over the three week period.
Mr Camerino as the school Physical Education teachers will be in attendance during the swimming lessons to observe our students' skills.
Year 5 & 6 Victorian Water Safety Certificate Program
Next week, Year 5 and 6 students will be part of the Victorian Water Safety Certificate (VWSC) program. This program is designed to identify the knowledge and skills of our Year 5 and 6 students with a focus on water safety, survival sequences and rescue techniques and the ability to swim continuously.
The Victorian Curriculum outlines the essential skills and knowledge our students need to develop, including the competencies set out in the Victorian Water Safety Certificate. At St Simon, we strive to ensure our students achieve these competencies by the end of primary school—not only through our swimming program, but also through integrated classroom learning on water safety and hands-on experiences during our Open Water Learning Experience excursion.
As part of this program, our Year 5 and 6 students will partake in a practical assessment program at Paul Sadler Swimland, Rowville with qualified swimming instructors. These dates are scheduled for each class below (with catering for students absent on their assigned day for assessment)
For our Year 5 and 6 parents, please refer to all information outlined in the Operoo permission form.
