🎶 Year 6 'Community Song' Project - Music Dance & Drama (MDD)
In Term 2, our Year 6 students took a creative journey through their Community Song unit in Music, Dance and Drama. Exploring the idea of community, what it means, how it feels, and how it can be expressed, students composed original songs using digital production tools and brought them to life with lyric videos created in Canva. We are now proud to share 2 of these songs in each newsletter with our wider community.
As previously shared, the aim of this project is to encourage students to explore creativity while also reflecting on the values that connect us - belonging, kindness, resilience and teamwork. The process was just as important as the final product, with students learning to compose, edit, problem-solve and collaborate in ways that mirror the real-world work of musicians and producers.
In our previous newsletter we shared the first two songs from Ophelia and Zack and this week, it is Antonia and Denzell’s turn to shine.
- Antonia shared her song 'We're All the Same', a beautifully written piece that highlights the importance of kindness and connection.
Denzell followed with 'We're Never by Ourselves', a powerful song about the strength we gain from supporting one another and leaning on our friends through life’s challenges.
Both songs remind us of the creativity, empathy and teamwork at the heart of our Year 6 cohort.
'We're All the Same' - Antonia.
'We're Never by Ourselves' - Denzell J.
Each week for the rest of the term, we’ll continue to feature a new song at assembly and subsequently in our newsletters, showcasing the talent and perspectives of our Year 6 students. These performances are not only impressive works of music but also thoughtful reflections on how we can all help build a supportive and inclusive community.
Science Week Celebrations
During Science Week the students were involved in a special STEM lesson where they made a DIY Lava Lamp. They could take their lamps home and hopefully add some extra vinegar to reignite the Lava Lamp!
Also in Science Week, students were invited to our timetabled lunchtime activities, where they could participate in some simple experiments run in the STEM classrooms by Year 5 and 6 student volunteers. Students made Magic Milk, Rainbow Skittles, Tornado in a Bottle and Floating Ink. It was fabulous to see so many students participating and interacting with the senior students.
Special thanks to Evie, Ophelia, Zack, Cooper, Ailie, Matilda, Scarlette, Elodie, Will, Toby and Reuben the Senior Scientists for your assistance!
Students in Years 3–6 participated in an engaging incursion on game design delivered by Computer Xplorers. The session introduced students to the principles of game development, encouraged creative problem-solving, and provided a practical opportunity to design and test their own digital games. The incursion aimed to strengthen students’ digital literacy while fostering collaboration and critical thinking.
On Wednesday, September 17th students have the ‘Mad Science Show’ incursion, run by Mad About Science company. It promises to be a jam-packed 60-minute show of big WOW science madness! There are giant smoke vortices, levitating beach balls, flying toilet paper, flour fireballs, hair-raising electricity, and lots of learning!
Please ensure you have given consent and made payment for this incursion, details on Compass. *Consent due by 11:59pm Tuesday 11th September.
