Term Highlights

The term is progressing quickly, highlighting just how busy our students and teachers are in providing both outstanding educational opportunities and engaging extra-curricular activities. Our school continues to thrive as a place where learning extends beyond the classroom, with students embracing challenges, building skills, and developing their character.

Year 12

For our Year 12 students, the formal phase of their education is drawing to a close. Trial examinations have been successfully completed, and many students are now finalising major works to be submitted to external markers. This is a pivotal time as they consolidate their learning and prepare for their final HSC assessments. We wish them well and encourage them to maintain focus and resilience through these final stages.

Year 10 Dream Cricket

Our younger students are also making an incredible impact in the community. I would like to extend congratulations to Year 10 and Mr Brady Mather for their recent participation in Dream Cricket held at Inverell Public School. The Dream Cricket program engages its participants through modified and adaptive cricket-themed activities. It has grown to encompass schools and children throughout Australia and internationally, with special focus on Schools for Specific Purposes or disadvantaged schools. A letter of thanks from the organiser Paddy Miller stated:

"Once again, each and every one of them did an outstanding job. Their behaviour, manners, and the respect they showed to the students with disabilities and their carers was exemplary. Your students are wonderful young ambassadors for your school and should be very proud of themselves."

Year 9 Child Studies

Similarly, our Year 9 Child Studies students were commended by Jack and Jill Preschool for their thoughtful and engaging play session with the children. The preschool team shared:

"It was clear that each activity was thoughtfully planned to appeal to, and engage, the children. Your students demonstrated kindness, patience, and understanding. Beyond the fun, the session provided a valuable opportunity for social and community interaction and for children to challenge themselves in new settings. It was a wonderful example of how older students can positively influence and support younger learners in the community."

These experiences are a testament to the quality of our students and the dedication of our teachers. They demonstrate the pride, leadership, and compassion that define our school community. I sincerely thank all students involved and encourage them to continue being ambassadors for Inverell High School, setting an example through their positive contributions.

Year 6 into 7 Transition

Last Thursday, Inverell High had the pleasure of welcoming our small primary school community for a transition day, giving students their first taste of life in a larger high school setting. The day allowed them to explore classrooms, meet teachers, and experience a glimpse of high school routines, helping to ease any first-day nerves.

Next Thursday, 4th September, we will host a half-day transition for all students from our feeder schools, as well as those enrolling at Inverell High. These sessions are invaluable in supporting our new students to feel confident, prepared, and excited about their first year of high school.

We look forward to welcoming our newest students and helping them begin their high school journey with confidence and enthusiasm!

Mobile Phone Policy

Effective from Term 4, 2023, and in alignment with NSW Department of Education guidelines, Inverell High have implemented a ban on mobile phones during school hours, including class time, recess, and lunch breaks. This decision aims to create a focused learning environment, encourage social interaction, and ensure the safety and wellbeing of all students. However, we recognise the importance of communication and safety, especially while commuting to and from school. Therefore, students will be permitted to carry their mobile phones during these times, ensuring connectivity is maintained while respecting the educational environment during school hours. If you require to contact your child, please ring the school on 02 6722 3777 and the office staff will pass on any messages. We appreciate your cooperation and support in adhering to these guidelines, which are designed to enhance the overall learning experience and promote a balanced use of digital devices.

Consequences for inappropriate use relates to any of the items described above under, 'Student Responsibilities'. Students who are found with electronic devices, not turned off and ‘AWAY’ or in a YONDR pouch are at risk of having their device(s) confiscated. Improper use of mobile phones or other devices may also result in disciplinary action including suspension, as determined by the school's discipline policy.

As we continue through this busy term, I am consistently inspired by the energy, commitment, and achievements of both our students and staff. Your efforts not only enrich learning at our school but also make a real difference in the wider community.
