Learning in Year 3

It’s been a fantastic start to Term 3 in Year 3! We have just wrapped up our poetry writing unit, exploring acrostic poems, haiku, and rhyming poems. The students have worked hard to create beautiful poetry booklets, which will be coming home soon – we hope you enjoy reading them as much as we enjoyed writing them.
In Mathematics, we have begun learning about fractions, using plenty of real-life examples to help make sense of the concepts. We’ve been practising folding paper to accurately create equal parts and using number lines to find ½, ¼ and ¾. The students have shown great curiosity and persistence as they develop their understanding.
It was so lovely to see so many of our families attend the UrStrong evening last week. Miss Atkinson did a fabulous job showcasing the UrStrong and Friendology program we have at GPRS. Students brought their parents back to the classroom where they confidently explained the activities for the night. We made friend-o-meters, sketched friendship ninjas and created ninja headbands expressing what makes us a great friend. Thank you for all that came and supported the night.
This week, we enjoyed a wonderful excursion to The Big Goose animal farm. This hands-on experience brought our Integrated Unit, Feather, Fur and Fin, to life. Students were able to get up close at the reptile show, be hands on in the Petting Barn, went on a tractor ride and watch the sheep dog in action. All students demonstrated their respectful and responsible values throughout the day and we can’t wait to share our recounts and display our learning from the day. Huge shout out to the parent helpers - we hope you had a great day too. More photos to come up on Facebook soon...
