Bulldogs Read Program

At last Friday’s whole school assembly,  Poppy A in year 5 was recognised as the July winner for her book review as part of her involvement in the Bulldogs Read Program. Campbell Waring attended our assembly to congratulate Poppy and present her with her prize.  Great work, Poppy!

Here’s the email we received from the Ballarat Library to announce Poppy as the winner:

‘We are pleased to advise you that Poppy A is our July winner for the awesome review of Part of Your World by Liz Braswell. We thought Poppy wrote a wonderfully descriptive review that piqued our interest in the characters and their place in the story, it left us wanting more.’

You can read Poppy’s review below. All reviews from our Bulldogs Read students can be found on the Bulldog’s Read Website here: https://www.bulldogsread.com.au/2025-book-reviews

Children's Book Week

What a fabulous week we had last week celebrating Book Week at BPS! Many thanks to all the parents and carers who helped with costume preparation at home- we really appreciate your support; the dress up day last Friday was a highlight of the week!  A big thanks goes to Mrs. Anderson, Kim in the library and our education support staff who were involved in planning and running activities for the students throughout the week.

Lastly, congratulations to the winners of the ‘Book Worm’ competition- we hope you enjoyed your prize!

The Prime Minister’s Spelling Bee

Last week students in years 3-6 whose parents/carers consented, had an opportunity to participate in the school level of the Prime Minister’s Spelling Bee.

We expect an email early this week to notify us of any students who have progressed to the State Level round. Students, parents and teachers will be notified in the coming days of any students who have progressed through to the State level.

Celebration of Learning

In the final week of term on Wednesday, September 17th (5:00pm - 7:00pm) we have the Celebration of Learning.

The Celebration of Learning is always a very popular event on our school’s calendar and is a wonderful opportunity for you to come along and get an insight into what your child/ren are learning at school.

All classroom spaces as well as specialist areas will be open for students to lead their families through and share their learning. Tracey and her team in the canteen will also have the BBQ fired up along with other snacks and drinks also available.

Swimming and Water Safety

The swimming program commences next week for Prep, Grade 1 and 2AA and 2CV students. Year 2KG, year 3 and year 4 students will attend the week following next. In the final week of term Scotsburn students will participate in their swimming program and year 5/6 students will participate in their swimming program in week 4 of next term.

All students in Prep, Grade 1 and 2AA and 2CV have received a form for parents and parents to complete regarding their swimming ability. This is due back at school by this Thursday, August 28th.

Students in year 2KG, year 3 and year 4 will receive these forms this week and are asked to return them to school to classroom teachers by Thursday, September 4th.
