Down Ball Tournament
Arriving at school by 8:30am buzzing with excitement, we were all ready to compete at the Victorian Down Ball Championships.
We had a bit of time to practise our skills before we got on the bus. The bus ride was very fun with the energy and excitement of all the Jells competitors. When we got there, we settled in and practiced for 2 minutes before the organisers explained how the tournament was going to be run. Then the competition began. We had multiple teams competing. We cheered each other on being very loud while we
weren’t playing and when we had a long break we stocked up on energy with food. Each match was a challenge, the competition was tough, but win or lose, we had a fantastic time.
When all the games had finished, we had some free time, some people played tag, some people played down ball, others just had a chat, and some people came up with other games.
At the end, a teacher from each school played Down Ball. We chose Mr Perrin, he did pretty good, but he didn’t win, which was fine. Then they announced the teams who made it to the finals. Everyone was filled with excitement waiting to see if they made
it or not. Sadly, no Jells Park teams made it to the finals. We stayed to support and watch those schools that did make the finals.
The Victorian Down Ball Tournament was overall very fun and exciting, I would definitely do it again. Xavier W (6V)
Softball Clinics
The Waverley Junior Softball club ran some free clinics for Level 5 last week. It was a great way to start off our Softball and T-Ball unit as we prepare for Interschool Sport next year. The coaches gave some great tips which we will build on over the coming weeks. If your child is interested in trying Softball as a sport you might like to check out their Come and Try clinics at Jells Park over the coming weeks (check out the brochure)
Karate
Thanks to Robert from SCK Karate, Foundation students have enjoyed an introduction to Karate.
Karate lessons are held in the Gym every Thursday after school (4-5pm). It is great exercise for fitness, strength and conditioning along with developing coordination, balance, flexibility, agility and reflexes. Throughout the world, Karate is taught in many different ways and styles. SCK focuses on techniques to develop self defence and power. In doing so they also develop personal focus, self confidence, self control, teamwork and respect and, as a form of exercise it also helps reduce stress.
