Year 3/4 Steiner
Celebrating Learning
Welcome 3/4S families to the 2025 school year!
Students are settling into our new classroom upstairs, which has been a beautiful marker of our transition into the middle years of school. We are so grateful for those who came in during the school holidays to clean, organise and set up our room. Your efforts made the space feel so cosy from day one.
We have been working together to develop a set of classroom expectations that we all agree upon, to make sure our classroom is a safe and happy place to be. This has involved discussing how we want our classroom to look, sound and feel.
Maths
In Mathematics, students have been exploring place value up to 4-digits through games and other hands-on activities. They have been renaming numbers using different place values and representing them using a range of resources, including counters, cards and MAB. Students have started investigating 2D and 3D shapes this week as they created composite 3D shapes involving regular and irregular shapes. They have also expanded their ability to describe shapes using mathematical language such as faces, edges and vertices.
Literacy
The library was open for borrowing from this week. Please encourage your child to keep their new green library bags in their school bags at all times unless they are being used. This bag is intended to support students to remember to keep their books in a safe space and to bring them to school.
Library books to-be-returned can also be placed in the basket under the desk just behind our classroom door.
Students have been exploring sentence types; commands, questions, exclamations and statements. They have been searching for these sentence types whilst reading and discussed how intonation helps us to distinguish these.
