5-8 Community News

Dear Parents and Caregivers,
It has been a busy start to the school year in our 5-8 Community.
Firstly, we welcomed our new staff - Kezia Talbot, Taneisha Sampson and Georgie Rykers. They have already made major contributions to our community and we wish them all the best for the year.
We have also welcomed new students to our school community. Our new students have settled into our community extremely well. As always we are ever grateful for our current students and all their efforts to make the 5-8 Community such a welcoming environment.
Our Year 7s attended camp last week and had an amazing time. Surfing was the most talked about activity with the high ropes not far behind. There were some tired students upon return but some very happy ones also.
We have commenced our work around Magnify with enthusiasm. Although new, the content aligns with our previous work around the Science of Learning, so we continue to be positive in our understanding and delivery. Our students have also adapted well to the work around Knowledge Society. They already have their entry and exit routines understood and are responsive to their cue to start. We are seeing increased engagement and more time on task as a result.
In our Teacher Advisor Program we have focused on building strong learning and self care habits. With all of our new routines and content considered, it has been a big focus for us to make sure our students have the best chance to adapt to the changes that have been introduced in 2025.
Our Partnerships for the Future students have settled well and are engaging in all of their learning. They have commenced preparing and cooking meals within PBL and are about to start their inductions into welding, building or creative arts.
We are incredibly proud of our students and the way they have started the school year. They have been required to be extremely adaptable and patient and are adjusting to new routines and content. It has been a great start across the board, and we are looking forward to what the rest of Term One will bring.

Year 7 Camp
Last week our Year 7s attended their camp at Anglesea. It was three days of fun, games and getting to know each other better. At camp, students undertook a range of experiences such as high ropes, low ropes, archery, climbing wall and the flying fox. Outside of camp they were able to bushwalk and learn to surf. The feedback from the students was that they thoroughly enjoyed the camp and their favourite activity was surfing.
