A Fresh Start to the Year
Library Lovers Day - 14th February
As it is Valentine's Day today, the day is all about love. It is also Library Lovers Day. We have created a display of books about love (pictured above in our banner photo).
People love family, animals, their passions or interests and of course, reading. Students might also like to try a Blind Date with a Book. These are books in brown paper with a short summary on the outside. They can try something new and see if the book leads to a surprise joy.
Foundation to Year 2 Library Bags
With a new school year we have the opportunity for a fresh start to our borrowing from the Library.
It has been lovely to see so many Foundation to Year 2 students in the first few weeks with their library bags already. A big thank you as well to the parents and staff who have provided us with spare library bags for students who may have forgotten one for their first lesson. Your child may bring home a bag on loan until they get one for themselves. Let us know if there are any difficulties.
Research tells us the value of reading aloud with our children. Your child's class teacher will have let you know when your child has library lessons. Ask your child what they have borrowed and read it with them. They love telling us about who is reading to them at home. It has a big impact.
Please feel free to pop in to the Library before or after school if you have any questions. Students can also do their borrowing at that time if they forgot their books on their class borrowing day.
Lost and Overdue Books
Some students still had books out on loan at the end of 2024 and we suggested they take the holidays to try to find the missing items. If your child still has outstanding books it would be great to finalise these so that they have a new beginning. We need our resources to be shared by the whole school community. We will communicate with families about items still to be returned. If you have any questions give us a call.
Scholastic Book Club
You might have noticed that the Scholastic Book Club flyer came out last week. Thank you to those parents who have found the Book Club flyer in their child’s bag and had a look at what is available. You can also view the Issue 1 Catalogue online.
We are part of the Scholastic Book Club program because it offers students and families a chance to buy a book for a small cost. We also get the benefit of the points allowing the Library to get more popular books for students to read.
Notables Announced 25th February
The Children’s Book Council of Australia will announce the long list of books in the running for the Children’s Book of the Year for 2025. This long list is called the Notables. The CBCA will select the short list of six books for each category from these long lists. If you would like to read about the latest and best in literature for children the Notables is the place to find it. You might like to visit the website and read about some of the books on the list for 2025. https://cbca.org.au/awards/
