Maths Block: Strengthening Long-Term Retention with Daily Reviews.
One of the key components of our Maths block is our Daily Review slides, a valuable tool in helping students strengthen their understanding and retention of mathematical concepts over time. These slides provide students with the opportunity to continuously revisit previously taught content, ensuring that skills and knowledge are reinforced daily. This ongoing practice is essential for supporting long-term memory retention and making sure key concepts remain fresh and accessible to our students.
The Daily Review slides are designed to practice prior learning from the previous day, week, month and beyond. This process enables students to recall and apply knowledge they have already encountered.
By revisiting concepts regularly, we are enhancing students’ ability to retain and apply their mathematical skills. A key feature of our Daily Review sessions is their pace. At around 10-15 minutes, these reviews are intentionally kept short and focused, ensuring that students can quickly revisit content without losing momentum. The fast-paced nature of the Daily Review maximises student engagement and learning time.
At St. Joseph's, we are proud to use resources from Ochre Education, a curriculum-aligned, evidence-based organisation that specialises in creating high-quality materials designed to support student success. Last year, I had the opportunity to work with Ochre Education in developing maths lessons, and I experienced firsthand the quality and control that go into each of their resources. The flexibility of Ochre’s resources allows our teachers to make targeted adjustments to ensure every student in their class receives learning at their point of need.
Through the use of Daily Reviews, we are ensuring that our students are not only practising their maths skills but building a solid foundation of knowledge that will support them in their future learning. We look forward to seeing our students continue to grow and thrive in their maths education as they work through this powerful process.
