This week in Prep we have been focusing on our movement skills, particularly jumping and leaping. We focused on how we can jump from two feet to two feet and leaping from one foot to another foot. We practised this independently during our skill challenge before playing some team games trying to get from one side of the gym to the other. We had an amazing time in PE this week and cannot wait to learn even more skills this term!
This week, our Grade 1 and 2 students had fun learning dance through movement and creativity! Using scarves, they explored how to express themselves and create flow with their movements. As part of their dance journey, the students also followed along to a guided dance video, learning new steps and choreography while focusing on coordination and rhythm. It was a week full of fun, creativity, and learning through dance!
The Grade 3 and 4 students have been learning about the seasons of the Wurundjeri people of the Kulin nation. They have learnt that the Wurundjeri people use 7 seasons, which explain the changes we see in the local environment. Students also looked at what happens in our local area in each season. They then learnt about the ways Indigenous Australians care for the land sustainably.
See below some of the season wheels of the Wurundjeri people which Year 3 and 4 learnt about and decorated this week.
This week, the Grade 5 and 6 students learned about the Element of Art: Shape! We talked about two kinds of shapes in art—Organic shapes, which are wobbly, curvy, and look like things in nature, and Geometric shapes, which are easy to name, like circles, squares, and triangles.
For our artwork, we drew still life pictures of flowers in a vase. The petals and the flowers' overall shape were organic shapes. Everyone focused so well and created amazing artwork. Great job, artists!
I am very excited to have new group of library monitors helping out in the library this term.
Library monitors will work in the library during recess and lunch to assist with tasks such as:
Applications were open to Grade 5 and 6 students and we had a big response. Students who missed out this term will be given the opportunity later in the year.
