Safe Play

On Friday we noticed a number of our youngest students playing in the garden bed on the forecourt where the flag poles are. All garden beds at SMPS are considered 'out-of-bounds' for students. This particular garden bed (with the flag poles) runs adjacent to a footpath and can mean that broken glass, sharps, etc. are dropped in. We have the following steps in place to prevent this during the school day:

  • Staff scan all play spaces before allowing children to play.
  • Students are only allowed in spaces that are easily seen.
  • Staff actively supervise all children during school break times to ensure they remain within the boundaries.
  • Our maintenance man, Jai, checks garden beds on a regular basis.

Before and after school hours, we ask that families ensure their child is safe and not entering out-of-bounds areas like garden beds. Please ensure you are actively supervising your child and are aware of their whereabouts.

2025 SMPS Easter Raffle - Friday 4 April

🎉 SMPS is holding an Easter raffle fundraiser!

🍫Seeking donations: Our raffle prizes are made up of generous donations from our wonderful SMPS community. If you are able, please purchase one chocolate egg, two chocolate eggs, or a packet of chocolate eggs and hand them in to the SMPS office.

All the chocolate donations will be put together to make up some fantastic prizes! All donations are greatly appreciated, even an Easter basket or gift bags to package the prizes in would be gratefully accepted.

We're sorry, we are unable to accept home-made treats. Only store-bought products please.

🎯 Drawn: The raffle will be drawn on the last day of term, Friday 4th April, after the Easter Hat Parade for our students.

🎟 Raffle Tickets: In the coming weeks, each student will receive an envelope with 10 raffle tickets inside. We will ask students to please sell as many as they can. Tickets cost $1 each. Cash only. All money raised will go to help fund improvements to benefit the SMPS students and the community.  Such as, the playground line markings (installed in 2022), our new BBQ (purchased in 2023), and a playground shade sail (installed in 2023!).

🎟 Volunteers Needed: If you are able to help with the following tasks to support this school fundraiser - please contact Emma or Kirsty in the office.  These tasks can be done at a time that suits you, and we will provide a working space for you at school.  Get a group of friends together and help us out for a few hours over the next few weeks.

  • Counting Tickets and Sorting into Class groups to be distributed to each student by the teachers
  • Laminating some Signage and Advertising Flyers
  • Packaging a variety of Prize Packs from donated Easter egg items
  • Helping Collect tickets from families before and/or after school

In the meantime - please drop off Easter eggs, Easter gifts or Easter packaging for our Raffle at the office.

Encouraging Healthy Lunch Choices at SMPS

At SMPS, we encourage balanced and nutritious meals to support students’ concentration, energy levels, and overall well-being. Recently, we have noticed an increase in low-nutrition, fast food meals being delivered to students as last-minute replacements when lunch has been forgotten or not ordered.

We understand that sometimes lunches get left behind, orders are missed, or life simply gets busy, and food delivery can be a convenient solution. However, we kindly ask families to consider the nutritional and social impact of these choices.

Healthier Alternatives for Last-Minute Lunches

Instead of fast food options like McDonald’s or Domino’s, we encourage families to choose healthier alternatives such as:✅ Sushi (Sushi Hub, Roll’d)✅ Wraps or Toasted Sandwiches (Subway, local cafés)✅ Salads or Poke Bowls (Grill’d, Fishbowl)

Why It Matters

🥗 Balanced Meals for Better Focus – Nutrient-rich meals with protein, fiber, and healthy fats help maintain steady energy levels, improving concentration and mood throughout the day.

💬 Social & Emotional Impact – Receiving a "treat" takeaway meal can unintentionally send the message that forgetting lunch means getting McDonald's, which may create feelings of exclusion among peers.

By making mindful food choices, we can help create a positive and inclusive lunchtime experience for all students. Thank you for your support in promoting healthy habits at SMPS!
