Grade 2

A Terrific Start to Year 2!

What an amazing start to the year we’ve had in Year 2! Students have settled in wonderfully as we’ve begun building a positive and united classroom community.

We kicked off the year by exploring the Zones of Regulation to help students recognize and manage their emotions. We also discussed our PROUD school values and classroom expectations to create a supportive and respectful learning environment.

Teamwork has been a big focus, and we’ve had so much fun working together! Students collaborated to create the longest paper chain and took on exciting challenges in Minute to Win It games.

In Maths, we’ve been revising Place Value skills, strengthening our understanding of numbers. In Literacy, we’ve been diving into our mentor text, Willy the Wimp, exploring characters, predictions, and key story elements.

To continue conversations about school at home, here are some questions you can ask your child:

  • What are the PROUD values? How have you shown them at school?
  • What are the Zones of Regulation? What zone were you in today?
  • What was your strategy for making the longest paper chain?
  • What do you think will happen next in Willy the Wimp?
  • What is Place Value? Can you show me an example?

Looking ahead, next week we’ll be starting our Initial-Lit program, which includes spelling and comprehension lessons. We’re excited for another fantastic week of learning!

Thank you for your ongoing support!
