Wellbeing and Engagement

Welcome to the start of a new school year. This term has hit the ground running with high energy and enthusiasm from all staff and students. Alongside our learning we have already managed to fit in many opportunities to meet in house groups, our Dux and Cross Ceremony, school photos, a swimming carnival and a community engagement evening (just to name a few!). There will be many more notable events and activities coming up this term such as:
- Harmony Day: Harmony Day is the celebration that recognises our diversity and brings together Australians from all different backgrounds. It’s about inclusiveness, respect and a sense of belonging for everyone. At O’Connor Harmony Day will be celebrated with a range of activities for students to pick from. It allows for students to try something new and get to know our school community.
- Year 7 and 10 Immunisations - These will take place at school. Information is available via Compass. Please consent or decline if your child will be taking part in the immunisations.
- STEP Day - Prospective students from feeder primary schools will be visiting OCC for a day in week 5. This will be run by our student leaders and LYL’s to help ensure the year 6 students have a fun day of activities and can see what O’Connor is all about.
- Cross Country - this will be run later on in the term
We are looking forward to all the exciting things to come.

SPECIAL REPORT: The Wellbeing Barometer - 2025
The Wellbeing Barometer survey is an invaluable tool for schools, providing critical insights into the mental health and wellbeing of young people. This annual survey identifies areas of concern, highlights resilience and adaptability in students, and emphasises the importance of preventative strategies to promote positive outcomes.
Participation in this survey is strongly encouraged, as it offers a comprehensive view of students' experiences, challenges, and achievements. By capturing a detailed understanding of young people's experiences, the survey supports a tailored approach to enhancing their mental, emotional, and social wellbeing. It helps to identify strengths and areas for improvement, as well as pinpoint opportunities for early intervention.
The survey is part of an ongoing longitudinal study, and we encourage you to take a few moments to complete the survey for each of your children. Responses remain anonymous and should be based on your observations over the last 12 months. By working together, we can reduce the long-term impact of mental illness and make a meaningful difference to the lives of our young people for a brighter future.
