At St Peter's, we believe that educating students about recycling helps raise awareness of environmental issues. It teaches them about the impact of waste on the environment and the importance of conserving resources.
By learning to recycle at a young age, students are more likely to carry these practices into adulthood, contributing to a more sustainable future. We hope that they will bring the knowledge they gain at school into their homes, encouraging their own families and communities to participate in recycling efforts.
On Wednesday, the 12th of June, the Grade 3/4s learned about recycling. The first thing we learned was about glass, aluminium, steel, plastic, and paper and how they can be recycled. The 3 bin colours are yellow, red and green bins. The yellow bin is for recycling plastic. The green bin is for food scraps. The red bin is for general waste. We had to separate the Coles minis into mini bins. Then our presenter, Naomi, gave us pop-out 3D bins, and there were little paper foods that we could sort out. Have you ever put something in the wrong bin?

On Wednesday, we had a recycling incursion. Our presenter, Naomi, came from the Monash Council to teach us about Recycling.
We had to separate garbage and put it in green, yellow, and red bins. After separating the stuff, we got pop-out 3D bins and little symbols of objects to put in them.

Writing explanation texts helps students develop critical thinking skills. They must understand a topic thoroughly to explain it clearly and accurately, which reinforces their own understanding.
Explanation texts often involve technical writing skills, such as defining terms, describing processes, and providing step-by-step instructions. These skills are essential in many careers, particularly in fields like science, engineering, and technology.
This explanation text explains why a robot cannot click the reCAPTCHA, which I personaly thought was very interesting !
