Sustainability at OGPS

Barwon Water Incursion

This week, all students in Foundation to Year 2, participated in a Barwon Water Incursion. Fernando from Barwon Water explained the importance of water and why we should learn about it. We learned about the Water Cycle and how water gets from our oceans and lakes, into the clouds, then turns into rain and falls back down into our waterways again. We also got to make a giant puzzle on the Water Cycle. We then talked about ways that we can save water and not waste it, like turning off taps and having shorter showers.

Active Wednedays!

We're excited to introduce Active Wednesday at OGPS, a fun initiative aimed at promoting physical activity among our students and families. We encourage everyone to participate by choosing an active way to travel to school—whether it's scooting, riding a bike, or simply walking.

Here's why Active Wednesday is important:

  • Health Benefits: Physical activity promotes better health and well-being for children and adults alike.
  • Environmental Impact: Choosing active transportation reduces traffic congestion and contributes to a cleaner environment.
  • Community Spirit: It's a great opportunity to connect with neighbours and classmates while enjoying some fresh air.

How can you and your child participate?

  • Plan Ahead: Discuss and plan your route to school, considering safety and convenience.
  • Safety First: Remind your child to wear a helmet if scooting or biking, and to use crosswalks when walking.
  • Have Fun: Turn the commute into a fun activity by spotting wildlife, chatting about the day ahead, or playing games along the way.

Let's make Active Wednesday a regular highlight of our week.

Together, we can inspire healthy habits and create a positive impact on our community and environment!
