Principal Message

Dear Families,

Parent Teacher Meetings: Thanks to all families who have engaged in these conversations to celebrate semester one learning. As I have stated before, some students will have achieved above the expected level, at the expected and some maybe below the expected level. Once the reports are available on Sentral, there should be no surprises as to where your child is at in their learning. Please book in for a conversation with your child’s teacher if you haven’t done so already. Thanks to all staff for their work on assessing and reporting this semester.

GATEWAYS: Last week we had another enrichment opportunity for students to participate in. Students from across grades had the chance to work with some high level extension maths problems. From visiting their classroom, I saw students fully engaged, challenged, working collaboratively and were having their brains stretched. Thanks to Mrs Earle for coordinating this fantastic opportunity.

Athletics: Mr Horbury ordered the chilly weather for the School Aths last week and students from Years 3-6 enjoyed the range of athletic activities. Who knows, we may have a future Olympian amongst us! A special thanks to all staff and families who helped out on the day to enable the athletes to experience athletics track and environment.

Lock Down Drill: As part of our Emergency Management procedures, we conduct a range of drills throughout the year. Today we practiced our Lock Down Procedures. Please discuss with your children about the importance of these drills to ensure safety in the event it is needed.

Facilities: The top basketball court is back in action! The final part of the flood mitigation works is now complete. New larger drainage pipes have been installed so fingers crossed, when we get the massive rains that it all works. Thanks to the community for your patience while the works have been completed. Now we move to the Yarning Circle/Outdoor Learning area on the East side of the library. Keep your eyes on this as the Gordon Institute begins to make this space come to life during Term 3.

Soccer pitch: You may have noticed new soccer goals have been installed recently and on Monday this week, the fence extension was completed to keep the balls in this area and prevent injuries to students on the playground below. We are now in a position to replant the embankment between the playground and soccer pitch and I am calling for volunteers to lead this project. Email or call the office and I am happy to guide you.

Family Involvement: We hope families take up the opportunities to be involved in school life, from classroom helpers, supervision on camps, walking excursions through to being a committee member, running an event or even instigating something we don’t have, or need to add. If you feel you can volunteer, add value or just want to help, please let us know in the office and we will direct you to the right person.

Have a great week and stay warm!
