What's on in 3/4
1/2 Buddy Time
This week, we thoroughly enjoyed bonding with our Grade 1/2 buddies. We connected over engaging conversations, Lego building, drawing, reading, creating, and simply chatting in a friendly atmosphere. We eagerly anticipate our next get-together later this week. Please head over to the 1/2 Newsletter for many more wonderful photos.
Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden
We took a trip to Thailand! Well… not really, but eating the foods of Thailand helped us feel transported! Deborah and our kitchen helpers supported our students as they created Thai Pumpkin Soup and Pumpkin Scones. The additions of coconut milk and kaffir lime leaves added wonderful rich flavours to our dishes. Harvesting the kaffir lime leaves from our very own garden helped us feel involved and a part of each step of the process. As always, sitting and eating together as a class was a pleasure, giving our students and teachers a chance to connect with each other and share in a common experience.
3/4 Assembly
The 3/4 Junior School Council Reps did an outstanding job of running last week’s school assembly. They enthusiastically met for two lunchtimes to help plan the running sheet and practice reading out the Student of the Week's and other news. Thank you to Aiden, Manisa, Samuel, Natalie, Lily (and Pia, who practised at home but was too unwell to attend). You all showed admirable leadership skills and dedication to the role. A special shout-out to Steven for accepting the last-minute role of 'Australian National Anthem IT Specialist'.
Mathematics and STEM
We love exploring so many different elements of Mathematics, it’s such a varied subject! Our students were challenged to build the tallest tower they could, that could sustain force from the side. Students worked in mixed groups, practising their social, teamwork and listening skills to collaborate on their tower. This activity gave us an opportunity to integrate other areas of maths, like geometry, and explore how a single object can look different depending on your perspective. Students experimented and drew their towers and compared viewpoints from the top, side and front.
In Mathematics, students are also exploring probability. They’ve had great fun collaborating with peers, running experiments to explore the likelihood of different outcomes from occurring. Students have used resources around the room including cubes, money and games such as ‘Greedy Pig’.
