What's on in 1/2

CHESS CLUB

This term I did chess club. In chess club I have been learning and improving my chess skills. We learnt the Italian Game which was my favourite. In chess club you get to know people that you haven't met before from the whole school and you get to play with new friends. I came third overall and I am very happy.  Alexander D 1/2D

GARDENING WITH ASHLEY

The students have thoroughly enjoyed our gardening sessions with Ash! We have learnt so much from planting seeds, making environmentally friendly pot plants, tasting delicious flowers and understanding what it takes to grow Tuscan Kale.

Thank you Ash for all that you have taught us and we look forward to learning much more!

NUMERACY

This week Level 1 / 2 students have been busy working with 2D shapes. They have been transforming them by flipping (Reflection), sliding (Translate) and turning (Rotate). After their exploration of transforming the shapes and making interesting discoveries they wrote a brief report on what they found.

Emma

My shape is a hexagon and it has 6 vertices and 6 corners. My shape is a rainbow and I slid it, half turned it then I flipped it. When it was flipped my shape was blank.

Mankirat

I have four sides on my shape. It is a rectangle. I used purple, dark blue, orange, green and brown. I needed to slide, flip and turn it. It was really hard but it was also fun!

Selina

I have a star. It has 10 sides. I flipped and slid it as well as turning it around. It was a little bit tricky.

Astrid

My shape is a hexagon. It has 6 corners and it goes slide, turn and flip. My shape has six sides. We played a shape game and it was fun looking at shapes.

Hunter

Today 1/2D looked at shapes. We used slide, turn and flip. It was tricky and it was so much fun. I want to do some more!

Charlotte

I used a triangle. It has three corners and 3 sides. I slid it, turned it at 15 degrees and I flipped it. Then I went back to the start.

Archie

My shape was a pentagon. I slid it and turned it and flipped it. It was a bit hard but I got through it and I had a good time.

Alex

My hexagon has 6 corners and 6 sides. My hexagon is a 2D shape. 2D shapes are flat because they are two dimensional.

William

My shape is a hexagon. It has 6 sides, 6 corners and 6 vertices. I noticed that if I look closely it is a three dimensional shape because you can use the green as a wall and a wall is 3 dimensional. When I was doing my shape, I slid it to the next box then I quarter turned into the second box. Then I had to flip my shape upside down and then after I had to flip it back around. I learnt from my mistakes in maths and I listened to the teacher to get my work done.

Kristy

My shape is a hexagon and it has six vertices and six straight lines. I translated, rotated and reflected. My shape has pink and on the edges blue. For the background I have green and green for the leaves with purple flowers. I really liked my hexagon.

Amelia

My shape had three colours and it was a heart. It was tricky!

PJ DAY @ WPS

Cozy Comfort for a Good Cause

On Thursday 13 June students and staff embraced coziness for a wonderful cause during PJ Day! It was a delightful sight as everyone came dressed in their favorite pyjamas, swapping uniforms for a day of comfort! We were very happy to raise some much needed funds for the Royal Children’s Hospital.

BUDDY TIME

We had a great time getting together with our Grade 34 buddies this week. We got to know each other through interesting conversations, Lego building, drawing, reading, building creations and just generally having a friendly chat. We look forward to our next meeting!
