What's on in Foundation
Maths
We are "subitising superstars" in Foundation! Looking at all the different ways we can identify a number quickly using ten frames. We loved showing how the same number can look different depending on where we place it on a tens frame. Some arrangements we found trickier and others a lot easier to subitise. Foundation students also explored our ‘friends of ten’, numbers that when added together equal ten. We were able to use our subitising strategies to quickly add these numbers together, showing quick ways to add to ten. It was great to see the different strategies students used when identifying the ‘friend of ten’ they chose to show on their fabulous monster tens frame.
Pizza Day
Oh what a dream if all school days were this delicious. Foundation students loved eating our special Pizza Day lunch, the equal favourites … margarita and hawaiian. We loved sharing our favourite pizza ingredients we love on our pizzas and brought them to life by creating our own pizza craft. Foundation students created some beautiful descriptive writing describing their favourite pizza toppings.
PJ Day
This was by far the comfiest we have seen our Foundation students. It was wonderful to see our students raising money for the Royal Children’s Hospital by wearing their warm and cosy pyjamas to school. We brainstormed some amazing adjectives to describe our Pyjama Day outfits, choosing interesting words to explain our pyjamas patterns, textures and colours. No one even noticed at all that it was a freezing, cold day - we were rugged up in our fluffy, warm and cosy outfits.
Garden
We got down and dirty in the Garden last week, becoming experts in the garden. Foundation students were in charge of planting some lettuce and salad greens in our kitchen garden. First putting on the tricky gloves, before using our small trowel to make a small hole in the vegetable garden soil the perfect size for our small salad seedlings. We carefully covered them with soil and gave them a good drink of water. Foundation students are particularly keen to watch these lettuce and salad greens grow to hopefully use in a delicious recipe when they have grown enough. Maybe a delicious vegetable garden sandwich!
