What an incredible term in Senior School, highlighted by the success of our KCHS School Fete. It was fantastic to see our students in action, running stalls, managing activities and contributing to such a positive whole-school event. Their teamwork, effort and creativity were on full display, and we’re so proud of what they achieved!
Our Year 10 students have had a busy term across their subjects. In Maths, they have been exploring financial maths, building their understanding of money, budgeting, and everyday financial decisions. In English, students have been working on informative texts, developing their ability to structure and communicate information clearly. In Media, students have been creating stop-motion videos and developing their editing skills, showing great creativity and persistence throughout the process. In Work Related Skills, students have been focusing on transferable skills, exploring industry growth, and investigating future jobs they may like to pursue.
Our Year 11 students have also had a strong term. In Numeracy, they have been designing a road trip around Australia, applying real-world maths skills such as budgeting and planning. In Literacy, students have been writing formal letters to organisations to seek donations for the fete, contributing directly to its success while developing their communication skills. In Work Related Skills and Personal Development Skills, students have been exploring industry growth, future career pathways, self-awareness, goal setting and decision-making to support their next steps.
A highlight for our Year 11 students was their excursion to the Salvation Army Training Centre, where they took part in a workshop and guided city walk focused on understanding homelessness in Australia. This was a powerful and eye-opening experience that helped build empathy and challenge misconceptions.
Our Year 12 students have also had a big term. In Numeracy, they have been working on an assessment focused on planning for the next 30 years of their lives, applying their learning to real-life scenarios and future planning. In Personal Development Skills and Work Related Skills, students played a key role in planning and organising the KCHS School Fete, working behind the scenes to bring the event together. In Literacy, they have also been writing formal letters to organisations to seek donations, contributing to the overall success of the fete.
We also had the pleasure of attending the International Women’s Day Breakfast, where Liv, Layla, Evie, Dylaina, Maddy V, Pauline and I joined an inspiring morning hosted by Jo Briskey, with guest speakers including Steph and Bonnie from Essendon AFLW and Jill Hennessy. It was a valuable opportunity for our students to hear from strong female leaders and reflect on their own goals and aspirations.
Our VET students have had a really strong start to the term across Hospitality, Visual Arts, Music, and Outdoor Recreation. We’ve also welcomed Retail Cosmetics as a new VET this year, with Sara joining us as trainer, which has been a great addition.
In Week 3, our Year 7–9 students headed to Adventure Park for the day, joining the Outdoor Recreation students who were there for an overnight camp. It was a great opportunity for students to get involved, try something new, and build connections.
More recently in Week 8, our Outdoor Recreation students attended the 15 Mile Creek camp with Simon and Josh, which was an incredible experience and a real highlight of the term. It’s been great to see students engaging so well across all VET programs and making the most of these opportunities.
A big thank you to our staff for your ongoing work and support this term. It does not go unnoticed. Thank you also to our families for your communication and partnership throughout the term. And to our students, we are really proud of your effort and growth!
Wishing you a safe and restful Easter break. I’ll be spending the holidays on Phillip Island for a week, so fingers crossed for some lovely weather!
