Library News - Learning, Reading and Community
It has been a busy and rewarding time in the library as we head towards the Easter break, with students and staff alike making the most of our reading and learning spaces.
Our Senior Book Club met for the second time this year, bringing thoughtful energy and enthusiasm to discussions around "The Curious Incident of a Dog in the Night-time”. Students engaged deeply with the text, sharing insights into character development and narrative style, and respectfully challenging one another’s interpretations. It was wonderful to see such mature literary conversations taking place. Members have now picked up copies of their next novel – ‘Illuminae’ by Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff - and are looking forward to reading over the Easter holidays - no doubt ready for another lively discussion when we return.
In the spirit of encouraging reading for pleasure, all staff were loaned a book from the library to enjoy over the break. Each loan came with a bookmark and a small Easter treat as a thank you for the important role they play in modelling reading for students. We hope this small gesture supports some well-earned rest and relaxation with a good book.
Preparations are also well underway for the Readers Cup, with enthusiastic students from Years 7–10 busily reading, re-reading, and taking notes as they prepare for the upcoming competition. The focus, collaboration and commitment shown by these students has been impressive, and it’s wonderful to see such strong engagement with a wide range of texts.
As the assessment and exam period approaches, the library continues to be a popular space during recess, with students using the area not only to socialise, but increasingly to study, revise and work collaboratively. It’s encouraging to see students taking ownership of their learning and using the library as both a calm study environment and a welcoming community space.
I encourage everyone to enjoy the upcoming break, take some time to unwind, and, if you can, relax with a great book - there’s always something waiting for you on the library shelves.
Wishing all students and staff a restful and refreshing Easter break.
