FIELD SKETCH PRACTICE – Preparing for Our Excursion

Students recently headed outside to practise their field sketching skills in preparation for our upcoming geography excursion to Eagles Nest. Field sketches are an important tool used by geographers to record observations of a landscape. Rather than focusing on perfect drawings, students practised identifying and sketching the main shapes, features, and layout of the environment, such as buildings, trees, paths, and open spaces.

This activity helped students develop their ability to observe landscapes carefully, simplify complex scenes, and label key geographical features. These are the same skills they used when we visited Eagles Nest on Friday 20th, where students created field sketches of the coastal environment to support their learning about landforms and coastal processes.
