SCHOOL LEADERSHIP MESSAGE

PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE
ATTENDANCE FOCUS
Attendance continues to be one of the strongest predictors of student success, wellbeing, and long‑term outcomes. When students are at school regularly, they build stronger learning habits, maintain positive friendships, and remain connected to routines that support their academic growth. So far this year, our attendance rate is 87.8% and our unexplained absences are holding at 15%. Congratulations to the 60 students who have had 0 days absent this year. Our data for this time of year is better that it has been in the last 5 years which is a great result. We will continue working closely with families to support consistent attendance, early communication, and timely follow‑up when concerns arise.
COMMUNITY SUPPORT
As we move through a somewhat challenging couple of weeks, I want to extend my sincere thanks to our entire school community. Your support, patience, and encouragement over recent weeks have made a significant difference. In times where things feel uncertain or disrupted, it’s the strength of our partnerships with families, staff, and students that keeps our school moving forward with confidence and care. In the face of some difficult news, students, staff and our community have shown empathy, respect and resilience.
NAPLAN
Over the past two weeks, our Year 7 and Year 9 students have demonstrated exceptional resilience and maturity as they completed their NAPLAN assessments. Despite a few unavoidable technical issues, they remained focused, calm, and determined. We are incredibly proud of the way they conducted themselves, supported each other, and approached the assessments with such positivity. Their behaviour across both weeks has been outstanding.
I would also like to acknowledge and thank our dedicated staff who supervised NAPLAN sessions. Their flexibility, professionalism, and calm management ensured the process ran smoothly, even when technology didn’t cooperate. Their efforts allowed students to feel supported and confident throughout the testing period.
PARENT TEACHER INTERVIEWS
Parent–Teacher Interviews play a vital role in strengthening communication and supporting student progress. Attending interviews with your child provides a shared understanding of their learning goals and celebrates their achievements together. We listened carefully to community feedback about accessibility and scheduling, and this year we are offering two options: an evening session on Wednesday, April 1 from 4pm – 8pm, and a day session on Thursday, April 2 from 9am – 12pm. We strongly encourage all families to attend and engage in these valuable conversations. Bookings will open Monday on Compass.
SCHOOL COUNCIL
This week, we were pleased to welcome our newly elected staff and parent representatives to the 2026 School Council. School Council plays a vital role in shaping the direction of our school, and we are grateful to those who have put their hand up to contribute. In particular, I want to warmly welcome our new parent members Desirae Hancock and Nicole Sage, and our new staff members Izzy Kennedy and Sarina Olsen. Parent engagement is one of the strongest predictors of a successful school, and their involvement ensures that decision‑making reflects the needs, perspectives, and hopes of our whole community. We look forward to working in partnership over the coming year.
STOPWORK ACTION
The Australian Education Union (AEU) has indicated that it intends a full-day stop work on Tuesday 24 March 2026. At this stage we do not know the exact impact on our school’s operations.
We are currently working through our operating arrangements for that day and will receive the information about staff who will be stopping work by 5:00pm on Friday 20 March. We will ensure we communicate to you any change of operating arrangements by 2:00pm on Monday 23 March 2026.
Please note that the timing of this information is not determined by the college, and we are sharing updates as soon as they become available to us. At this stage, we do not have any further information beyond what is outlined above, and we kindly ask that families do not contact the General Office seeking additional details.
We are providing this early notice so families are aware of the situation.
Thank you for your understanding and ongoing support.
