Open Girls Netball New England Zone Trials
Today, a squad of 14 girls travelled to Inverell to participate in the Open Girls Netball New England Zone Trials. The girls were highly motivated and committed to playing their best throughout the day.
All players trialled extremely well and had plenty of court time on a very warm day in Inverell. Six girls were selected in the possibles and probables squad: Skye McIndoe, Billie James, Suzie Lockwood, Jasmine Klingner, Emma McIntyre, and Mia Watson. These girls then returned to the court to once again prove themselves in their chosen positions, competing strongly against others vying for a spot on the representative team.
After another long and physically demanding session in the sun, the trials concluded with four Glen Innes High School students being named in the New England Zone Team.
Congratulations to: Billie James – strong performance at Wing Defence, Jasmine Klingner – excellent versatility across Wing Defence and midcourt positions. Emma McIntyre – outstanding defensive effort, earning selection at Goal Keeper and Mia Watson – impressive adaptability, securing a position after strong performances at Goal Shooter and Goal Attack.
A huge congratulations to these four girls, and well done to all players who participated.
We wish them the very best at the North West Trials on 31st March (Week 10)!

TOUCH FOOTBALL DEVELOPMENT CLINICS
On Tuesday, 24th March, Dan McKenzie, the Regional Touch Football Development Officer, visited our school to conduct three clinics for different age groups. These sessions were held at Wilson Park, where Dan set up a variety of skills and drills. The students rotated between the drills and received explicit coaching on what they were doing well and areas for improvement.
Players excelled in these activities, developing both their knowledge and physical ability, particularly in some attacking plays. Defensive techniques on the line were also coached, along with important substitution systems during the final boys’ session.
A huge thank you to Dan for his time and commitment. He was highly professional and demonstrated excellent coaching skills with all students involved.
The 'Powerade Player' of the Session awards were presented as follows:
- First Session: Billie James
- Second Session: Skye McIndoe and Kyle Berg
- Third Session: Mav Burgess
We look forward to welcoming Dan back to our school for more invaluable touch football clinics like the one experienced on Tuesday.
