LPS Student Council

Last Friday, the 25th of March, our Student Council representatives walked to Lancefield Park to take part in a local clean-up activity run by Landcare.

Students spent the afternoon collecting rubbish using tongs and gloves, working together to help tidy the park and surrounding area. They were able to fill several bags, making a positive contribution to the local environment.

During the visit, photos were taken for the local newspaper, and some students also wrote short pieces that will be included in the Landcare Australia magazine.

It was a fantastic day and a great opportunity for students to be involved in the community and care for the environment.

Overall, the Student Council have shown tremendous enthusiasm in their roles, eagerly volunteering to write speeches and assist with school events throughout the term. They have already made a commendable and positive impact on our school community and have lots more planned for next term!

“Firstly, we would like to thank Landcare and Emma for planning us the opportunity to pick up rubbish at Lancefield Park. We would also like to thank St Mary’s for coming with us. It was fun picking up rubbish and also a really good day for it. We found a lot of rubbish all around the park. We filled up buckets and bags with plastic, cigarettes and even bags of dog poo. And we found some useful stuff on the ground that could still be used or recycled! We want to pass a message to the readers and community that you should throw your rubbish in the bin for the lives of animals, Earth and nature.

“Dear Footy and Cricket Club,

My name is Poppy and I am a student council member at Lancefield Primary School and I took part in Clean Up Lancefield.

When we were cleaning up around the rooms, sadly we found lots of cigarette butts, lighters, bottle lids, glass and lots of bits of plastic and metal too. I think it would be a great idea to fundraise to buy some more bins or cigarette trays for people to use, for the Earth, animals and setting a good example for our children. We need to encourage more people in Lancefield to recycle to save the planet. After all every little bit helps.

Thank you,

From Poppy”
