Co-Curricular - Junior Sport Stage 3

The past weekend threw up a number of challenges for teams, boys and their families. Unfortunately, the poor weather caused a number of cancellations. Thankfully a number of home games went ahead, and the majority of summer teams were able to take to the court, field and diamond. I would like to thank you for your patience in the rain, flexibility with cancellations and continued support for the boys. This week looks like there may be some more rain interruptions, however the forecast for Saturday is more favorable, with only a small amount of rain hanging around.

Junior School Cross Country

Last Wednesday the boys in the Junior School participated in the annual Cross Country Carnival. It was great to see all the boys get out on track and put in a big effort to honor their sponsorships for our Lenten fundraising. The total amount raised by the Junior School will be released closer to the end of the term. Congratulations in particular to the boys from Coghlan House, who came out as victors of the carnival.

Boys that finished in the top 10 for each age group will be involved in morning training sessions from next week. All boys are expected to be in attendance and details will be emailed to those involved shortly. From the training group, the top four in each age group will be selected to represent the College at the IPSHA Cross Country Carnival on Wednesday 1 April.

Winter Sport

With the start of Week 6, we started the season of autumn. This means that Winter Sport Trials are coming up. All boys should be aware of their winter sport nominations for AFL, Rugby or Football. Times and dates of the trials will be released in the coming weeks.

An important note for all those trialing for Junior School Football this year: Strathfield Council has limited our use of local ovals as they undergo redevelopment and ground improvements. As a result, we have less oval space available for training. In order to give the best opportunities to develop their football and to make the best use of the ovals available, many Junor School teams will have morning training sessions.

These morning sessions start at 7:00 AM and conclude at 8:15 AM. Boys involved in these sessions should arrive at school ready to train and bring their College uniform to school to change into after the session has concluded. I appreciate this will cause some challenges for families in the morning; however, it is being implemented to give all our students the best opportunity to develop as footballers. The draft training schedule and draft draw will be made public in the coming weeks, prior to the end of school term holidays.

Wishing all our teams the best of conditions for this weekend, Round 4 of the summer season.
