Wellbeing News

It is hard to believe that term 1 has come to an end. There has been lots happening in the wellbeing space both across the school and behind the scenes. Our newly formed MCC 2026 Wellbeing Team settled into their roles and have work tirelessly to create opportunities to destigmatise mental ill health and encourage others to embrace challenges and rise above: increasing their own resilience and having the confidence to step outside of their comfort zone.
The team have chosen to work with the theme of resilience for the remainder of the year and are currently exploring and planning activities for term 2 and 3. Recently members of the team had the opportunity to attend a local activity hosted by headspace Griffith and facilitated by a range of local and national services, working collaboratively to promote and support positive mental health and wellbeing.
Rylan Scarfo has kindly provided us with a report on the event.
Wellbeing Team - HYPE Excursion
On the 26th of March 12 Year 11 Wellbeing Team members had the privilege to attend the annual community event, “HYPE”. It was a great opportunity for us as Wellbeing representatives at MCC to receive ideas for events to do in the following terms.
Emma, Camila, Ameila, Harman, Harry, Alex, Zeinab, Olivia, Steph, Ekam and I learnt firsthand of the consequences that comes with gambling and got to participate in some card activities, which we all agreed was the highlight of the day. Another workshop we all enjoyed was a session of meditation, where we found our “Zen”.
Some other activities we participated in were some painting, chess, basketball competitions, marshmallow tower building and bean bag tossing. While doing these activities we had the chance to speak with representatives of the organisations of the opportunities available after high school and certain events we may be interested in happening within the community.
We thank Miss Hone for her organisation, kindness and supervision in making this event possible, we could not have done this without you! and to our Year coordinator, Mr Morris for his generosity in driving us to and from the event!

The students were exceptional ambassadors for both their families and their school however, unfortunately the inclement weather required some of the outside hands-on physical activities to be modified or cancelled but a great time was had by all. On reflection, it was the perfect opportunity for students to understand that sometimes we cannot control external factors, only how we react or respond…. resilience in action.
At the later part of the term, we made some modifications to our popular lunchtime games group.
The changes included games group commencing at 11:25am This allows for students to eat, go to the toilet, get some fresh air, a small dose of vitamin D/ melatonin PLUS less stress and more suitable for our volunteer staff. The finishing time remains the same.
Specific activities on certain days, restricting screen time and electronic games. This reflects recommendations from recent studies and data available. The electronic games that are played are suitable and must adhere to the ethos of the Catholic faith of kindness and care to others. The days when electronic games are not permitted students are welcome to access and play any of the wide range of card and/or board games that are available in the cupboard or get creative with our Lego station. These games are a mix of old favourites and newer games. They are available to be played every day.
Our focus of the activity is to create an inclusive environment where all are made to feel welcome and are given the opportunity to socialise with others.
- Mindful Monday (no electronic games at all)
- TECHNO TUESDAY
- Wellbeing Wednesday (no electronic games at all)
- TECHNO Thursday
- Feel Good Friday (no electronic games at all)
The feedback from students and staff has been positive and I am hoping to introduce some new additions to our game collection next term.
In closing, I wish you all a very happy Easter. For those travelling please be safe and I hope that everyone has the opportunity to spend the time enjoying time with family and friends.
