Religious Education, Sacramental and Faith Celebration News
Next Friday 13th September, we will celebrate our school Feast Day. The most important part of the day will be the celebration of Holy Mass at the earlier than usual time of 10am. We remind everyone that all in our school community are invited to this celebration.
As part of their Religious Education lessons, students from P-6 have been exploring Mary, our Mother. Students have been thinking about the qualities of Mary, as a model of discipleship. The older students have also been looking at different images and titles of Mary, exploring their significance for people of faith and what can be learnt from them. Below are some examples of the images of Mary some of the 1/2 students created, with Mary's qualities written around her.
Throughout the rest of the day, students will participate in a variety of fun activities to celebrate our patroness and our school community in general.
We hope to see as many members of our school community at our Feast Day Mass as possible.
Next Tuesday, 10th September at 6pm, students and their families from Year 1/2 are invited to join us for a Family Faith Evening. Gathering in LC3, we will continue on the sacramental and faith journey together.
During the evening, we will have the opportunity to gather in prayer, listen to a story about God's love for us, share our thoughts as families, and then create a momento to take home at the end of the night. Students will be able to add this to the cross they decorated in Prep and the prayer the Year 2's created last year.
Families of Year 2 students will have the opportunity to register their intention for their children to celebrate the Sacrament of First Reconciliation in 2025.
Each Friday morning, in place of our usual meditation and prayer, we have a 'Gospel Challenge'. During these challenges, we listen to the coming Sunday's Gospel reading and reflect on its meaning. You are invited to join your child's learning group at 8.50am for this time in prayer. The Gospel Challenge goes for roughly 5 minutes.
We would love to see as many parents and family members join us as possible!
The Parish of St Andrews and the Wyndham Vale Catholic Community is calling all Prayer Warriors to join in praying for the construction of a new church on the block next to OLSC, set aside by the parish for that purpose. So, we invite all our school community to join us in praying for the church building. As a family, you may choose to use this, or another prayer, in your daily prayers:
Our Lady of the Southern Cross, pray for us.
St Joseph, pray for us,
St Andrew, pray for us.
School Masses will take place twice a term this year. Our celebrations are open to all of those in our school community, and we hope to see as many of our families join us for Mass. Our next Mass is Friday, 13th September at 12pm in the Sports Centre. Please find below times and dates of all of our school Masses for 2024.
