Year 3

Hsien Tran (Team Leader), Lisa Shoebridge, Michelle Guye, Louise Jarvis and Bronwyn Moore

There has been lots happening at school recently. Despite Term 3 being a short one, it has certainly been jam packed! It was wonderful to see so many of our fathers, grandfathers and special friends were able to make it to school for a picnic lunch last Friday. We were blessed with some lovely sunshine and the students thoroughly enjoyed spending extra time with these special people. We have all been working hard on our songs and dances, and are looking forward to performing for you all next Tuesday night. With our dress rehearsal done and dusted, there are now only a few days remaining before the big night!

In the Classroom:

Maths:

This fortnight we had a bit of fun creating robots using straight lines and then identifying right, acute and obtuse angles within our drawings. Some students were able to use a protractor to accurately measure their angles too.

Literacy:

One of our literacy lessons this week was on reading with expression. We practised reading aloud within a small group, focussing on the way our voice sounded and the flow of our words. It is important that students are able to read aloud in a fluent and expressive way and it was lovely to hear them working together on this goal with their peers.

Writing:

We have revised simple, compound and complex sentences and practised using a range of sentence types within our writing. By using different sentence lengths and styles we can create interest and flow to our writing.

Inquiry - Forces:

There was a lot of excitement in the classrooms this week as our rubber-band powered cars turned from plans on paper, to reality! There has been a lot of trial and error, teamwork and cooperation needed to produce a model that works. We look forward to testing them out next week and discovering whose creation will be the most successful!
