WOW! What an exciting 2 weeks we have had in Year 2.

We have had Father's Day lunch, Father's Day Stall, Scienceworks excursion and Dress like a Pirate day. Thank you to everyone who has participated, volunteered, dressed up, handed in a gold coin donation or come to eat at school with your special person.

On Monday all of the Year 2's took a long bus ride through a tunnel and over the West Gate Bridge to Scienceworks. All the students, teachers and parent helpers had so much fun exploring Tinkertown, the Muesum and the Energy lab. They were busy using their imagination to build cubbies out of magnetic cushions and cafes from various equipment engaging in authentic real-world challenges. The students made connections to our Inquiry topic of Forces, Push and Pull in the Energy lab. The highlight was watching Ms Lumley get a red cup pushed off her head using the force of air.

In Maths the students have been learning more about Fractions. They have created Gumball Machines with different fractions for their gumballs. In Calendars, they have researched special days for September, October, November and December. One of the most interesting was National Deep Fried Clam Day!

In Writing students have been learning about how to organise their ideas in their writing. They have continued to edit their writing for correct punctuation, including a capital letter at the start of a sentence and a full stop at the end. In class we have read 'Under the Southern Cross' and talked about what we hear, see and feel in the morning and evening. This included smelling and listening to breakfast being cooked in the morning and hearing possums and owls, while seeing stars come out at night.

In Inquiry students have continued to make Dog Treat Feeders using Rube Goldberg simple machines. We are looking forward to seeing what they make in their groups next week.
