Principal's News

Dear Parents & Parishioners,
Over the 8th and 9th September, Marvel Stadium was transformed into a hub of inspiration and learning as more than 1,200 Catholic educators gathered for the inaugural Melbourne Archdiocese Catholic Schools (MACS) Flourishing Learners Conference.
Members of the OHR Leadership Team attended the first day, while the entire team gathered together at Marvel Stadium for Day 2.
Across two energising days, the conference delivered a rich program of keynote presentations, practical workshops, and collaborative learning experiences. The atmosphere was electric, filled with purpose, inspiration, and a shared commitment to nurturing every learner.
Local and international experts delivered a consistent message: MACS is flourishing with a collective vision and a responsibility to ensure every student is seen, supported, and challenged.
Across the two days the message was clear: the work of Catholic education must be both purposeful and practical, rooted in evidence and oriented towards hope.
There were many outstanding voices across the program. Professor Dylan Wiliam reminded us that genuine improvement comes from investing in the teachers we already have, and that formative assessment and feedback must shape daily practice.
Tom Sherrington showed how great technique, applied with consistency, gets every student thinking and learning, while Bronwyn Ryrie Jones emphasised that assessment should build a culture of thinking, not just checking. Kristen Douglas highlighted the role of educators as ecosystem builders, where learning and wellbeing rise together.
Jamie Clark demonstrated how careful design reduces cognitive load and strengthens memory, and Amy Haywood from the Grattan Institute argued that excellence and equity are inseparable, and that shared routines, rich curriculum and purposeful professional learning define high performing schools.
Traffic Safety Video
Over recent months, the School Captains and Vice Captains have been working with me to spread the message about traffic rules and safety in the streets surrounding OHR. The following video is a result of the work we have undertaken. The video was shared with the students during Monday morning's assembly, so feel free to review and discuss the contents with your children over the school holidays.
Farewell
Sadly, tomorrow is the last day at OHR for Parvaaz (1/2GK) and Bandgi K (5/6CM) as they prepare for their move to Brisbane. We will miss both girls and their parents, Himatpal and Inderpal. and thank them for the contribution they have made to OHR during their time as part of our community.

Footy Colours Day is Tomorrow
Don't forget to dress up your children in their favourite team colours tomorrow. The footy code doesn't matter. They are in for a day of fun as we celebrate the footy finals. Mrs Gorgeous Golds has a bit more to say about the day in her PE News page.
The day will begin with a whole school mass to conclude the term, which parents are welcome to attend.
Following tomorrow's whole school mass, all the students will engage in a range of footy activities lead by our Year 6 students.
Summer Uniform & Hats
As we are a SunSmart School, all students will be required to wear their hats to school from the first day of Term 4. Students have the option of wearing either their summer or winter uniform for the first two weeks of the term, but not a combination of the two. We also ask that the students wear black leather school shoes on the days they are not wearing their sports uniform.
Term 4 School Closure Days
- Melbourne Cup Weekend - Monday 3rd & Tuesday 4th November
- 2026 Planning Day - Monday 1st December
OHR Twlight Christmas Carols
Please note the change in date for the OHR Twilight Christmas Carols. So this event does not overlap the weekend of the OHR Parents & Kids Camp, the Carols have been moved to Friday, 21st November.
PFA Sausage Sizzle Tomorrow & End of Term 3
To conclude the term, the PFA will hold a sausage sizzle for the students tomorrow. The cost for a sausage in bread is a gold coin donation.
Remember, the students will be dismissed at 1.00pm.
Wishing all our families a relaxing school holiday break — enjoy the time together and the excitement of the footy finals!
See you next term for what promises to be an event-filled last quarter!
