Learning Community 3

We've made it to the holidays! 

We have powered on with our learning, working hard to show our understanding of Holes, creating graphic novels, and trying our hand at making nets. 

We have finally finished reading Holes, and loved it! We learnt so much about fiction texts, and the reasons authors write and create certain scenes. It was fascinating reading a text with a duel time line, and seeing it become clear that the two stories were linked. To sum up the fiction book study unit, students were able to show their understanding of the characters, setting, plot and vocabulary through a range of creative tasks.

In Writing we have been experimenting with graphic novel style texts. We've looked into the structure of the texts and how they differ from a standard narrative. It was interesting to look at the reasons for using different sized frames and layouts for our stories, and how to include onomatopoeia and gutters of different widths to add to our stories. 

Maths has been fun, making Shape Cities! We have revised properties of shapes, both 2D and 3D. We turned nets into 3D shapes, and even tried making our own nets to create a cityscape. It was challenging but great fun! 

In Design Technologies we have made ads and jingles to advertise our own healthy snacks, before making a healthy snack!
