This term has been packed with fun and awesome experiences! From splashing around in the swimming program and building water confidence, to dressing up for our colourful Book Week parade, cheering on Footy Day, and dancing the afternoon away at the school disco — there’s been no shortage of good times. It’s been a great mix of learning and activities, and every student should feel proud of what they’ve achieved.
Mathematics
We have been building on our learning in measurement by exploring how to describe and compare the length of objects. Students have been learning to use informal units, such as hand spans and paces as well as blocks or paperclips, to measure and compare objects in the classroom. They have also begun working with formal units, such as centimeters and meters, to measure more accurately and consistently. Our lessons have included hands-on activities where students estimate and then measure objects, record their results, and discuss why different methods can give different answers.
Reading
In reading, students have been focusing on carefully reading and following instructions to create different tasks and projects. They have been practising how to read step-by-step directions clearly and accurately, which has helped them understand the importance of reading carefully to achieve a successful outcome. This focus has also supported their work in our writing unit on procedures, as they can now see how clear, well-ordered instructions help others successfully complete a task
Writing
In Writing, students have been learning how to write procedures, focusing on giving clear, step-by-step instructions. They enjoyed making paper planes, mixing milkshakes, creating resin jewellery, and sculpting with air-dry clay, producing some very interesting creations along the way. Students also practised using strong verbs such as mix, stir, and blend and added adverbs like carefully and gently to make their instructions clear and precise.
