Year 3 Excursion

Last week, our Year 3 students embarked on an exciting and educational adventure to Kings Park Naturescape, where they explored the wonders of nature while learning essential survival skills. The excursion was a hands-on extension of our HASS unit on Settlements and what they consist of, and tied into our current learning in Mathematics around maps.
Throughout the day, students worked in small teams to tackle a series of survival challenges. They practiced orienteering, using maps and landmarks to navigate the bushland. They learned how to create shelters using various materials, explored methods of collecting water, and even had the chance to make their own damper over a campfire-an experience that was both fun and delicious!
This immersive experience helped students understand what early settlers might have faced and what is truly needed to survive in the Australian landscape. It also gave them a deeper appreciation for natural landmarks and the importance of teamwork, problem-solving, and resilience.
We are so proud of how engaged and enthusiastic our Year 3's were throughout the day. A big thank you to our wonderful parent volunteers and staff who helped make this excursion such a memorable learning experience!
