Year 3 Magpies and Numbats

It’s been a fun and full few weeks in Year 3!

In Mathematics, we’ve been learning all about arrays, multiplication, and division. Students have been exploring how numbers can be grouped and shared and using visual models to solve real-world problems. One of our favourite activities was creating city arrays-students designed buildings with windows arranged in rows and columns to represent multiplication facts. It was a creative and engaging way to connect maths with design!

In English, we’ve been practicing our recount writing by reflecting on our exciting excursion to Kings Park Naturescape. Students wrote detailed accounts of the survival skills they learned-like orienteering, building shelters, collecting water, and making damper. This tied in beautifully with our HASS unit on Settlements and Natural Landmarks in Australia, helping students connect their learning to the real world.

We also celebrated Book Week in style! Students came dressed as their favourite book characters and wrote imaginative pieces describing who they were and why they chose them. It was a wonderful celebration of reading, creativity, and storytelling.

As part of our focus on wellbeing and respectful relationships, we participated in a Zero Bully incursion. Students learned about the importance of kindness, inclusion, and standing up for themselves and others in a safe and respectful way.

To top it all off, we prepared handmade coasters as special gifts for Father’s Day. Each one was decorated with love and care, and we hope all the dads enjoyed their thoughtful surprises!

We’re so proud of the enthusiasm, creativity, and teamwork our Year 3's have shown. Keep up the amazing work!

Pre-Primary Lorikeets and Possums

We have had a very busy and fun Term 3! We loved participating in the Book Week Parade and St Helena’s Feast Day.

In literacy, we have been practising our reading by sounding out CVC words during guided reading. We are also making amazing progress with our writing, and we are trying hard to sound out and phonetically spell words.

In Design Technology we read a story called “Not a Box”. We then thought of what we would like to turn our own boxes into. We got really creative and used lots of different materials to make our creations. We are going to show off our creations at the Learning Journey afternoon.

In HASS we have been learning about communities. We brainstormed some different places in our community and drew our own maps. We know that we all belong to the St Helena’s Community.

Last Friday some our dads came and had a games morning with us. We really enjoyed having our dads visit and play with us and we hope that all our dads, grandfathers and other special male figures had a lovely Father’s Day!
