Food Techology Kitchen

Food Tech's eight weeks young

We are two months into learning in our brand-new Food Technologies kitchen and students have been making the most of the upgraded facilities. The clear favourite recipe so far? Chocolate Chip Cookies.

This recipe may look simple, but it quickly became a highlight of the term. Students learned the importance of balancing sugars, carefully folding in chopped dark chocolate, and chilling their dough before baking. However, the real magic was discovered at the very end – the addition of a light sprinkle of flaky sea salt. This small step transformed the humble cookie into something extraordinary, creating the perfect contrast between the sweet, chewy base and the delicate crunch of salt on top.

The reaction from students was unanimous: the salted chocolate chip cookie is a game-changer. For many, it was their first experience experimenting with sweet-salty flavour pairings, and they loved the way the salt made the chocolate shine even more.

Our Food Tech students have not only enjoyed eating the cookies but have also gained confidence in essential baking skills. Judging by the smiles (and crumbs), this recipe is destined to remain a favourite in the kitchen!
