Bravo to Battle of the Bands

The Battle of the Bands on August 28 was an absolute hit – packed with energy, amazing performances, and loads of fun. A huge congratulations to Mandela House who smashed it, winning both Best House Choir and Best House Band. Shoutout as well to our Best Student Band – Entropy for their awesome performance, and to Best Vocalist – Allison Diputado, who absolutely wowed the crowd. A huge thank you to all the staff who made the event possible, especially Ms Tia Scott for creating our amazing poster and being such a superstar behind the scenes.

Congratulations as well to the students who represented us in the AngliSchools Piano Competition on August 29. You played brilliantly and really did us proud.

We were so impressed by all the students who performed at the Official Opening of AngliSchools House with A Million Dreams. Your enthusiasm, passion, and talent lit up the stage and made it a performance to remember.

And we are not done yet! Don’t miss our very first Vocal Showcase this Friday, 7.00pm at the Murray St Campus. It is free and everyone is welcome – come along and cheer on our fantastic singers.

Making most of the mask task

Commedia dell'arte, also known as "Italian comedy," was a humorous theatrical presentation performed by professional actors who travelled in troupes throughout Italy in the 16th century.

This term has been explored by our Year 9 Drama students who, as part of their assessment, developed their own Canovaccio (a scripted outline used in Commedia to guide improvisation) and designed and decorated character masks. From the pompous Pantalone to the witty Arlecchino, the classroom has been buzzing with creativity, laughter, and plenty of over-the-top physical comedy.

Their hard work didn’t stay behind the classroom doors. On 5 September, the Year 9s showcased their developing skills at the AngliSchools House Opening. With exaggerated gestures, sharp wit, and striking masks, they brought centuries-old theatre traditions to life in a way that was both engaging and entertaining.

It was a fantastic opportunity for the students to share their progress and gain performance experience in front of a lively crowd. We can’t wait to see how their final assessments come together — masks on, characters ready, and laughter guaranteed.
