Year 11 & 12
Mr Tim Hayward
Year 12s, you are standing at the edge of something special. In the coming weeks you will experience a series of “lasts” that deserve to be noticed and enjoyed: your last test, the final assignment you submit, your last Chemistry lesson, the Year 12 Final Assembly; and countless quiet moments with friends that you will not be a part of again on a day to day basis. Take a breath, look around and let yourselves feel proud of how far you have come.
Amid the celebrations, don’t lose sight of your goals. Whether your next step is university, TAFE, an apprenticeship, or stepping straight into work, every choice you make now still matters. Keep your routines strong: arrive on time, wear your uniform with pride, ask questions, attend revision sessions, and use feedback. Plan your study, practise past papers, and build in sufficient rest so you can arrive at each milestone clear-headed and ready.
You are not alone. Your teachers, PCG tutors, Heads of Learning Areas and the Executive team stand ready to support you academically and pastorally. If you hit a hurdle, big or small, please reach out early. Small adjustments now can make a big difference by the time exams and final assessments arrive.
Families, thank you for the encouragement, patience and nudges that have helped our students get to this point. Your partnership with them as they get through their final few weeks remain invaluable. Key information for your final weeks at St George’s—including dates, expectations and events—has been sent to parents and caregivers. Students can collect the same booklet from me if they would like an additional copy. If you have any questions, contact me via Direqt Message or email and I will be glad to help. You have earned this moment. Year 12s savour these moments.
My advice to you all - Finish well, finish together, and carry the best of St George’s with you into whatever comes next in your lives.
The Top Six have been selected through the combined votes of Years 7–12 and staff. Congratulations to Juliette Andrews, Jade Fletcher, Sophie Gardner, Cooper Grant, Cate Williams and Benji Yan. Each of these students has demonstrated consistent service, initiative and pride in St George’s life, and we thank every nominee who stepped forward to serve their school.
The next stage invites our community to hear from the candidates directly. In the Week 9 Chapel Services, Juliette, Jade, Sophie, Cooper, Cate and Benji will share their ideas and hopes for St George’s, outlining how they would lead with integrity, inclusivity and energy. We encourage all students and staff to listen closely, consider their vision, the way they communicate, and how they plan to uphold our standards in learning, culture and service. Following these speeches, students in Years 10–12 and staff will have the opportunity to vote for the candidates they believe are best suited to serve as our School Captains in 2026. This vote is an important part of our process, reflecting our commitment to student voice and shared responsibility.
It is, however, not the sole deciding factor. Each candidate will also take part in a formal interview with our Principal, Mrs Tina Campbell, the Dean of Students & Wellbeing, Mr Ian Thompson, and myself as Head of Year 11 & 12. The panel will consider each candidate’s readiness for leadership, alignment with our values, capacity to represent the school publicly, and ability to support and mobilise their peers across Houses, year groups and co-curricular life.
Thank you to all students and staff who participated in the initial vote, and to every nominee who prepared a Vision Statement, your example sets the tone for a positive, future-focused leadership culture.
