Head of Year 9 - Ms Josette Mercieca
Article by Sienna F, Year 9 Student
Earlier this week, 8 students and I had the chance to go into the city to watch Bangarra Dance Theatre’s Illume performance. We caught the train into Federation Square together and went into the theatre, which was exciting and made the whole experience feel special.
The performance was so unique and unlike anything I had ever seen before. It wasn’t just dancing it combined movement, music, and storytelling to share Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander stories and culture in a powerful way. The dancer’s movements, together with the lighting and music, created an atmosphere that was emotional and moving. At times, the performance felt really strong and powerful, while other moments were quieter and more reflective, which made the whole show even more engaging.
Overall, it was such a memorable experience for all of us, and I feel grateful that Overnewton gave us the opportunity to take part in such an amazing experience in something so special.
As an alternative to competion on the field, Year 9 students participated in a battle of wits during a Trivia afternoon. Completion was fierce but friendly. Congrations to Cruz S, BJ P and Harry H for winning the competion with a score of 46 out of 50.
