Term 3 Reflection

Article by Nicola Treacey, Head of Junior School

As we approach the end of Term 3, we take a moment to reflect on the many highlights of the past eight weeks. Although it has been a shorter term, Junior School students have enjoyed a wide range of experiences. From excursions and incursions to the Book Parade, author visits, and swimming, there has been no shortage of rich learning opportunities.

On the sporting field, students excelled in athletics and cross-country, while our musicians created many special moments at the Festival of Music concerts. The Junior School Choirs also entertained with vibrant performances, showcasing their talent and joy for music.

Our SRC students have once again inspired us through their focus on Service. This term they reminded us of the value of gratitude, encouraging everyone to pause and reflect on what we are truly thankful for. Their efforts raised funds for the Christmas Shop in support of Anglicare.

Parent Teacher Interviews provided valuable opportunities for parents and teachers to come together to celebrate student progress. Term 3 is often referred to as the “learning term,” as it is during this time that we see significant growth amongst students across all year levels. It was wonderful to witness the strong partnership between home and school during these conversations.

As we close the chapter on Term 3, we celebrate another successful stage in the journey of our Junior School students. Looking ahead, we are excited to support our Year 4 students as they prepare to transition to Middle School, and to welcome our 2026 Prep students as they begin their transition into Junior School. Each term brings its own unique events and celebrations, and Term 3 has certainly provided many opportunities for learning, growth and celebration.

Learning an Instrument or Voice at the College

Approximately 500 students learn an instrument or voice across the College. The number of Junior School students currently having music lessons is 212.

Learning an instrument or taking vocal lessons offers students numerous benefits:

  • Skill development and creativity

  • Persistence and resilience growth

  • Academic performance: Research shows that students who practice an instrument tend to perform better in non-music subjects. Our experience supports these findings – the 2022–2024 College Duxes have all been committed music students.

  • Social and leadership skills: Music students can join bands, orchestras, and ensembles, which allows them to develop their social and leadership skills while participating in a “music team.”

  • Performance opportunities: There are opportunities to perform at College and external events at prestigious venues

It is an excellent time to enrol students for lessons commencing in Term 4. Junior School students can have individual lessons on:
