This week will see the final 2 concerts in the “Festival of Music” calendar. A full report of Festival Highlights will appear in the next issue of Whispers.
This year there have been 12 students studying Music at Unit 3 and 4. Recently they performed at the Festival of Music’s VCE Stars concert, and in the program, shared some thoughts:
I've enjoyed my time in the Music program at Overnewton — my highlights include the Out of the Blue gig and lunchtime performances with my Rock Band. I would like to thank all of my music teachers who have supported me along the way, especially Greg, my guitar teacher since Year 7, who has helped me grow so much as a guitarist. The best part of Year 12 Music has been the freedom to be creative, experiment with ideas on guitar, and enjoy playing and talking about music with others."
Throughout my time at Overnewton, I’ve loved being involved in the College Rock Bands, singing in the choir, and learning both guitar and piano. The music performance and music technology classes I’ve taken have given me a strong foundation in music theory, which I’ve continued to develop and explore through
Year 12 Music Inquiry. The best part of doing Music in Year 12 has been the creative freedom — being able to choose my favourite artists as inspiration for my compositions and to share the music I love with others.”
I've not been at the College long, but I've had an incredible time being part of its dynamic music program. Since joining, I've been involved in the Jazz Band, performed at several concerts, attended Music Camp, travelled to South Australia for Generations in Jazz, and most recently performed in the College musical. These experiences have been unforgettable, and the memories I’ve made will truly last a lifetime.

The College offers individual lessons on a range of woodwind, brass, string, percussion and keyboard instruments. Information regarding organisation and lesson cost can be accessed in the Instrumental and Vocal Lesson Handbook in the Compass Performing Arts folder here
