The changing autumn weather is upon us, which has brought the joy of cooler mornings and gentle breezes. The blessing of rain has enlivened the environment around us, waking wildflowers from the heat of summers sleep. The scent of autumn wattle is filling the Cassia garden, and our sites are being set upon the ranges beyond our garden. What special secrets do they hold? Where could wandering paths lead us?
This next fortnight will see the beginnings of our beloved bushwalks; a weekly fixture that will continue through the cooler months. Bushwalking is a wonderful opportunity for children to experience the expansive local environment, build capabilities in their ever strengthening and growing physical bodies, and resilience in their will forces. We will venture out towards much loved spots, like the Faraway tree and Little Creek, where upon arrival we will sink into the world of play.
Deep play grounded in the local environment fosters sensorial awareness and observation and an expansion of lateral thinking, creative problem solving and collaborative skills. Out there, under the watchful gaze of the Yeperenye ranges, our Cassia children will be building life-long skills for learning and a deep connection to place.
