Principals Report

Sue Carr

Dear Parents, Carers and Friends of St Brendan’s,

Welcome to Term Two 2024!

Even though it feels like a long time ago, I hope you enjoyed a beautiful Easter celebration with your families.

We had a positive start to our first week and I think it is really worthwhile to celebrate these moments. I am truly grateful for:

  • Seeing so many smiling faces as our students returned to school last Monday
  • Our dedicated and positive teachers and Learning Support Officers who work hard to engage with, teach and support our beautiful students
  • A lovely Alleluia Day liturgy led by our Year 1/2 students
  • A fun Kaboom Sports day where our house captains shone as they led our younger students in a fun filled afternoon. Thank you to:

Evie J -  Sage (green)

Ted C  - Sage

Chace G - Thornell (yellow)

Milla McK  - Thornell

Poppy L - Shepard (red)

Annabelle C - Shepard

Gemma W - Conroy (blue)

Hunter D - Conroy

  • Our beautiful parents and grandparents who came out to support their children and add so much to our Kaboom afternoon
  • Justin Barry, Tess Haddock and our Year 5/6 students who seamlessly combined to showcase our wonderful new Gaga pit. The senior students worked with Mr Barry in STEM to develop cost plans for the construction of the Gagapit. They worked in pairs to make models of the pit they hoped to build. They then assisted Mr Barry in the construction of the pit. They also worked with Miss Haddock to develop an instructional video on the rules and how to play the game. I am beyond proud of this amazing piece of work they have produced.
  • Parents who ensured that their children wore full and correct winter uniforms for our school photo day on Friday. We are proud of our school and we hope you will continue to support us in ensuring that our school uniform policy is adhered to. Thank you in advance.

Foundation Enrolments 2025

I would like to remind all parents who have children who will commence Foundation at St Brendan’s in 2025 to ensure they have collected an enrolment form from the school office. Whilst  your children are assured of a place, it is helpful for us to know exactly how many students  are seeking a place at St Brendan’s. I would really appreciate you collecting and completing a form this week if you have not already done so. It is important for us to let other prospective parents know whether they are likely to gain a place at St Brendan’s next year.

ANZAC Day Ceremonies

As we all know, Anzac Day is an important day on the Australian calendar. In order to pay our respects to those who fought to keep our country safe and free, we offer three opportunities to gather together as a school community and to gather in solidarity to demonstrate our respect and gratitude for those who have defended our country.

Somerville Dawn Service

In commencing a new tradition, the School Captains; Amelia and Toby, School Vice Captains; Catherine and Parker will represent St Brendan’s at Fruit Grower’s Reserve for the Somerville Anzac Day Dawn Service. We will meet at 5.45am for a 6.00am start. Families are warmly invited to join us if they wish. We ask that all St Brendan’s students wear their full winter school uniforms including black school shoes.

Hastings Service at the Cenotaph

As a long standing tradition at St Brendan’s, I warmly invite students and their families to join us at the Hastings RSL at 10.30 am in King St Hastings. We will march together to the Cenotaph, listen to the readings and speeches and witness Amelia, Toby, Catherine and Parker lay a memorial wreath on our behalf. We ask that all St Brendan’s students wear their full winter school uniforms including black school shoes.

I look forward to meeting with members of our school community at one or both events on Anzac Day.

Memorial Service at St Brendan’s - Friday 26th April 2.30pm

We will gather as a school community on Friday 26th April at 2.30pm to commemorate Anzac Day. This student led ceremony is a tradition at St Brendan’s. Parents and Grandparents are warmly invited to attend.

Have a wonderful week.

Yours in partnership.

Sue
